How Do You Picture God? | Jesus Our Ransom Sacrifice | Did God pour out His Wrath on Jesus on the Cross? | More Answers to Come....

(Note: This article is a Initial Version, I haven't completed it yet.)
Jesus Our Ransom Sacrifice

"The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
(Mark 10:45)

Through Whom He (the Father) paid our ransom in full, with His blood.” (Ephesians 1:7) This is probable the most reoccurring theme throughout the New Testament; yet it is one of the most misunderstood aspects of the Gospel. For to whom was this Ransom paid? For no one pays a Ransom to themselves.

The Greek word in Ephesians 1:7 is “ἀπολύτρωσιν (ap-ol-oo'-tro-sin) and it is easy to translate, it simply means, “to ransom in full”. This word appears 10 times in the New Testament, but the King James Bible doesn’t translate it literally, instead it translates it as “deliverance” or “redemption.” And this is probable why this essential element of our Salvation is misunderstood.” (This word occurs in Luke 21:28, Romans 3:24, 8:23, 1 Corinthians 1:30, Ephesians 1:7, 1:14, 4:30, Colossians 1:14, Hebrews 9:15, 11:35.)

Another Greek word closely related to it is, λύτρον (loo'-tron) “to release for a price.” This word occurs 2 times in the New Testament, and to their credit the KJV translators, do translate it as “ransom” in Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45.

The KJV also contains the word “ransom” in 1 Timothy 2:6 (ἀντίλυτρον = an-til'-oo-tron, the “Ransom price”.)

There are many other verses that refer to “the price” that Jesus paid "to purchase" our Salvation, such as 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "You are not your own? For you have been bought with a price," but it would take too much space to list them all here; for as mentioned earlier this is one of the main themes in the New Testament. Therefore it is very important that we truly understand what the Scriptures are referring to when they state, Through Whom He paid our ransom in full, with his blood.”

Sadly, many teach, “The reason Jesus had to suffer and die on the cross, was so that God could pour out all of His wrath, for our sins, on Jesus.” But actually GOD DID NOT POUR OUT HIS WRATH ON JESUS ON THE CROSS, this isn't taught ANYWHERE in Scripture!

In all of my studies on this topic, the only verse that I could find, that could be TWISTED to say this, was, Isaiah  53:10, “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him. He has caused Him to suffer. When you make His soul an offering for sin, He will see His offspring. He will prolong His days, and the LORD’s pleasure will prosper in His hand.”

But the reason “it pleased the LORD to bruise him,” was the same reason that Jesus was willing to die on the cross, for as the Scripture says, Jesus the author and perfector of our faith; Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame," (Hebrews 12:2) We were the Joy that Jesus looked forward to, as He suffered and died on the Cross, that He might "bring many sons to glory." (Hebrews 2:10) For this reason also, "it pleased" the Father to offer up His own Son as our ransom sacrifice, "For God loved the world so much, that He gave his only born Son, so that whoever trusts in Him wouldn’t perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

It was for the sake of LOVE that God offered up his His own Son, God WASN'T vicariously satisfied by Jesus suffering and dying on the cross; for GOD says, "'For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies,' says the Lord the LORD." (Ezekiel 18:32) In fact GOD was GREATLY ENRAGED by the death of His Son! (See Mark 12:1-9)

You may ask,
"If Jesus' death was not to appease God's Wrath?
Then why did Jesus have to die?"

First think about this: No one pays a ransom to themselves!

So to whom was this ransom paid? Who held us captive? And why would Jesus’ death secure our release?

The Scriptures teach, "We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the control of the evil one." (1 John 5:19) For as we read in Luke 4:5-6, "The devil... showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil told Him, "All this authority I will give to You, and their glory; because it's been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish." And Jesus did not dispute the devil's claim, because as 1 John 5:19 told us, "The whole world lies under the control of the evil one." So we know this to be true! And that's why the Bible calls the devil, "The god of this age." (2 Corinthians 4:4)

So how did the whole world and each of us individually become captive to the devil? We read in Romans 6:16, "Don't you know, that to whomever you present yourselves as slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves, whom you obediently listen to?" So when our first parents, Adam and Eve, listened to the dragon and obeyed his voice, Satan became master over them and all they posed; because a slave doesn't own anything--all that he has, belongs to his master! So the dominion over the Earth, which God had given to Adam and Eve, passed to the devil, when they obeyed his voice.

And each of us individually, have also been taken captive by the devil because, "All have sinned, and fallen short of the Glory of God." (Romans 3:23) Therefore Scripture tells us that we are to "In humility correct those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them a change of heart and mind, so that they may know the truth; And that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. " (2 Timothy 4:4)

So God had a problem:
Because those whom He loved,
had willing chose to follow another.

Yet NONE OF THIS took God by surprise, for as the Psalmist sang to the Lord, "A thousand years  in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past." (Psalm 90:4)Because long before anything happens, God already knows what the end of that thing will be. And that's why the Bible calls Jesus, "The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." (Revelation 13:8) For long before God created the world, He know He would have to become a man and to die for the sins of His people; because He knew then, and only then, would we realize how much He truly loved us. And so because He died for our sins, "We have come to know and believe the love that God has for us." (1 John 4:16) For as Jesus said, "If I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.” (John 12:32)

But this was something that the devil couldn't possibly have imagined or fathomed (because he is such a selfish creature), that God the Creator of all things, would one day become a man and die for the sins of people.

Therefore God had to hide this knowledge from the devil and all mankind, for as it is written, "We speak the wisdom of God in a secret mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, Which none of the rulers of this age knew: for had they known it, they never would have crucified the Lord of glory." (1 Corinthians 2:7-8) So God had to hide this knowledge from the devil, because had the devil known, he never would have crucified Jesus, and we would have remained the devil's slaves.

So God Had To Trick The Devil!

Because the devil wasn't asking for a ransom; he was happy with the way things were, because most of the world was worshipping him through their false gods. Therefore God had to trick the devil into crucifying Jesus, by making the devil so mad, that he would try to kill Jesus to get him out of the way.

Therefore God hide an obscure passage in the Law of Moses (one which in all of Israel's history had never been applied to anyone, except to Jesus). What was that passage of Scripture? That passage is found in Deuteronomy 21:22-23 NKJV,

"If a man has committed a sin deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that you do not defile the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance; for he who is hanged is accursed of God."

Because the Devil and the Pharisees and the Sadducees knew this verse, they believed that if they could get the Romans to crucify Jesus that God Himself would have to curse Jesus, because they knew, "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19) And so since God had said, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree." (2 Corinthians 5:21) They believed that God would have to curse Jesus,

And this is how God "Made Him who knew no sin to becme sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2 Corinthians 5:21) Because it's written,  "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree." (Galatians 3:13)

And since all things are from Him, this redeemed all creation!

Therefore, it is now written, "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having been made a curse for us (for as it's written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.") That the blessing of Abraham might come on the nations through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Galatians 3:13)

So the devil didn't know that Jesus was going to be God's Ransom Sacrifice, therefore God had to make , because

This theory has much more textual support than the "God poured out His wrath on Jesus" theory.
